Class of 2025

1975 State Championship Boys Basketball Team

The 1975 GRHS Boys Basketball Team won both the West Regional Tournament and the Wyoming State Championship.  The team was led by Head Coach, Larry Clause, and Assistant Coach, Rudy Gunter.

The Wolves won the Regional Championship over Thermopolis by a score of 81-64.  Thermopolis went into the tournament as the #1 Ranked Class A Team in the State.  Three members of the team were selected to the All-Regional squad: Melvin Lovato, Richard Smith, and John Cruz.

The State Tournament was also a success for the GRHS Boys Basketball Team as they defeated Glenrock High School 73-64 to win the State Title.  This was Coach Larry Clause’s 2nd State Title, and the third for the Wolves Boys Basketball Program.  Two players were selected for the Class A State All-Tournament Team: Richard Smith and John Cruz.  In April of 1975, Richard Smith and Melvin Lovato were also selected to the Associated Press Class A All-State Basketball Team.

As quoted in the 1975 Green River High School Rendezvous, “Discipline, desire, and determination combined to bring Green River its second net crown in five years. Regardless of whether the team was using a zone press, a multiple defense, or running out the clock to salt away another victory, the team was seldom without these qualities. As the team gained momentum during their undefeated conference season, other teams in the state dominated the polls, but, Green River was always there, sometimes higher and sometimes lower.”

Members of the 1975 Wolves State Championship Varsity Team include: John Cruz, Richard Smith, Terry Bigler, Mike Martinez, Mike Meeboer, Kit Schofield, Melvin Lovato, Kerry Eyre, Tom Graham, Larry Meeboer, Greg Gosar, and Mark Bennett.
